Who is this program for?

The Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) course is suitable for people wishing to develop the skills required to coordinate and maintain an OHS program. Participants of the OHS training will become qualified to perform duties in the field of Occupational Health & Safety within any environment or industry. Participants of the OHS training will develop a sound knowledge base and use various competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate their work and the work of others.

How will I be assessed?

To gain the Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety you will have to pass a number of practical and workplace (or simulated workplace) assessments. The assessments for this course are based on formal processes as required by the government.

This program is made up of eight units of competency:

  • Contribute to the implementation of the OHS consultation process
  • Identify hazards and assess OHS risks
  • Contribute to the implementation of strategies to control OHS risk 
  • Contribute to the implementation of emergency procedures 
  • Assist with compliance with OHS and other relevant laws
  • Monitor a safe workplace
  • Write simple documents
  • Establish effective workplace relationships
